Forty Days To November:
Day 36 - A Strong Entrenchment

Dr. James McHenry (1753-1816), one of the Signers of the Constitution, served as a member of the Continental Congress and as U.S. Secretary of War. In 1813 he became the president of a Bible Society in Baltimore, Maryland. He recognized how important the Bible is to society:
Dr. James McHenry
"Public utility pleads most forcibly for the general distribution of the Holy Scriptures.  The doctrine they preach, the obligations they impose, the punishment they threaten, the rewards they promise, the stamp and image of divinity they bear, which produces a conviction of their truths, can alone secure to society, order and peace, and to our courts of justice and constitutions of government, purity and usefulness.
In vain, without the Bible, we increase penal laws and draw entrenchments around our institutions. Where they abound, men cannot pursue pursue wicked courses and at the same time enjoy quiet conscience...
It is a book of counsel and directions, fitted to every situation in which man can be placed. It is an oracle which reveals to mortals the secrets of heavens and the hidden will of the Almighty."
Patriot's Prayer: Lord, may we always turn to the Scriptures for guidance, hope, and truth - and may Your Spirit work so that, as a nation, we open, study, and obey Your Word.

Patriot's Promise: "Depart from me, you evildoers, for I will keep the Commandments of my God!"  ~ Psalm 119:115
