Memorial Day is a result, really, of being built upon itself.  After 1868, World War I was added. After that, World War II, and, well, you get the picture. From USMemorialDay.org:

Memorial Day was officially proclaimed on May 5, 1868 by General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, in his General Order No. 11, and was first observed on May 30 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.

Memorial Day has its origins with That War, the War Between the States, the War of Northern Aggression, or, as most people refer to it as, The Civil War. Originally called Decoration Day, this is a day of remembrance for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while in our nation's service, an honor almost unfathomable both past and present.

We remember a multitude on this weekend. Did we remember why and when the holiday was created? Do we remember The Civil War soldiers and what they fought and died for?

On a weekend where our minds will appropriately go in appreciation for what we dare not ask, what of other thoughts on this Memorial Day - on That War and its outcome?  Dare I ask?
