The Bible and American Presidents
A nation is made great by its people and its values, particularly by its leaders and the values they embrace.  It has been said that a nation rises and falls on its leadership. Throughout the Bible, when ancient Israel had a king who reverenced God and held the Word of God in high esteem, the nation prospered.  When they had a bad king, life within the nation was full of misery.
American history is vividly clear that a faith in God and a reverence for the Bible provided the basis for the founding of our nation.  That same reverence for God by many of our presidents had had a profound impact on the greatness of our nation.  One fact is undeniable: the Bible has been one of the greatest influences on America's presidents.

Patriot's Prayer: I praise You, Righteous Father, for giving me the liberties that I enjoy each day. May I never take for granted that You grant us our freedoms only by Your grace.

Forty Days to November Day 2: The Star-Spangled Banner

Most people only know the first verse of the National Anthem penned as a poem by Francis Scott Key during the war of 1812.  on September 13, 1814, a young American watched relentless bombing throughout out that night. Then, silence.  When daylight arrived, Key saw the American flag waving proudly.  He immediately started writing "Defence of Fort McHenry." This poem was set to a popular tune and then renamed "The Star-Spangled Banner."

On March 3, 1931 Key's words by a congressional resolution was mad the National Anthem of the United States of America. Read the whole poem. It's not just about "bombs bursting in air" which some are prone to egregiously error that it is referring to our bombs. This poem at the time written expresses one man's deep gratitude for America's freedom and God's Blessings.

O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand

Between their loved home and the war's desolation.

Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land

Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,

And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."

And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave*

Patriot's Prayer: Thank you for keeping this nation safe and protecting us from harm. Call  us back to You that we may live with You as our trust.

*One bit of history trivia. During the War Between the States, an additional verse was added:

Forty Days to November: Devotions and Prayers for America

The Election is exactly 40 days from today. By this time on November 6th, America should likely know what path she'll be taking at this fork in the road.

From now until then, I've pledged with millions of other Americans to fast and pray for the sake of our nation's soul. For prayer and devotional, I'll be blogging it all here to share.* 

As for the fasting part, pray for me: I'm giving up sugar!

Recently, a picture emerged of the flag representing the rapidly rising fascism that is radical Islam over the US Capitol. And I have come to believe that we have a POTUS who is basically a sympathizer to these people, if not worse. So, I've come up with a response flag to these freaks I call Islamist Supremacists (and to BHO for that matter). It's not original. I just inverted the colors of a flag that is a pretty big favorite here in the Lone Star State.

Everything's bigger in Texas. Especially our Liberty.
